Community expectations when developing free software
Interesting distribution of bandwidth usage for official #openstreetmap tiles.
People in Germany, France and Poland use OSM more than in the USA.
Big countries like Japan, India, China or Iran really don't use OSM that much.
Germany uses as much bandwidth as the "bottom" 200 countries (in terms of OSM usage).
Based on this data from the OSM foundation: https://git.openstreetmap.org/dns.git/blob/HEAD:/bandwidth/tile.openstreetmap.yml
Google seems to think that only Enterprise customers deserve to control their own computers or have privacy. If you use Chrome, it's time to switch browsers.
Came across a post on callout culture in my friends feed, and since I am in a writey state of mind, decided to do a longread on that: specifically - on being made nervous by callouts. So this is going to be a thread.
Full disclosure: I am one of those people who is skittish of the idea of "callout and public apology" - because folks with a former Soviet Background remember our own callout culture - or at least what the older generations tell us. Not adhering to the moral standards of the Party.
Three conclusions to draw from #Google denying #Huawei access to software: (1) The #FSFE urges users to use Free Software operating systems and applications on their computing devices. (2) Governments and especially the European Union should invest more resources in #FreeSoftware to gain independence from large enterprises and other states. (3) The FSFE urges companies to use as much Free Software as possible in their supply chains. https://fsfe.org/news/2019/news-20190520-01.en.html #pmpc
